current thoughts

Life is pretty hectic for us at the moment, eight weddings in the next three months!
PAs and life with them is a consistent Enigma and I don’t think a unified solution exists
Part of the problem is that it is such a badly paid and underrated profession

The Girdlers’ Company: Charitable Giving – Livery Company, City of London.

I received an award from the Girdlers’ Company yesterday after being nominated by Dot Tussler from Stoke Mandeville hospital (recipient of charitable giving from the Girdlers’ Company). It was an honour to visit Girdlers Hall.

Photos and transcription to follow.

We then went to Shepherd’s Bush Empire to see the incredible swing/electro fusion artists; Caravan Palace. Thanks for the tickets Lucy.

wheelchair choices and disappointments

this is a letter to the wheelchair manufacturer (Permobil) regarding the last-minute fix of the wheelchair before holiday and choosing a new wheelchair to fix the current old one.
First of all I cannot thank you all enough for helping fix my chair before my holiday to Portugal last week
everything went fine, we managed to get the parts from RS components, rewire and get the head control welded back onto plates to attach it to the back rest (conveniently we have a metal works engineering company next door). this fixing was performed by wife and friend in the two days before leaving for holiday.. Portugal was fantastic.

Secondly, because of how helpful you guys are/have been and because I like the product, I’m going to go ahead with looking at a Permobil mid wheel drive chair.. I will need to have the most up-to-date and capable head control, which I believe you guys are releasing with your new control system sometime soon.please let me know when I can have a demonstration.
The other thing I’m extremely interested in is a self adjusting (with gyroscopes) levelling seated chair (where the chair stays level even when the wheels are on a slope. I saw this demonstrated a couple years ago but not sure the technology is in the mainstream yet
This interest in another permobil is in the wake of extremely bad sales service from Etac (whom I think have a very decent new chair- e800).

José Cordeiro – Monkfish Rice | Taste Portugal

José Cordeiro – Monkfish Rice | Taste Portugal.

Just cooked this, tasted fantastic. Nearing the end of our stay in Portugal. We have been in “Luz”, just outside Lagos in the South West of Portugal (Algarve). We were in Spain over the weekend (east of Seville, at a place called “Arcos de la frontera”) for the fantastic and picturesque wedding of Laura and Nick, friends from university.

We spent a day in Seville, visiting the “Parque de la Maria Luisa” which was simply stunning. Whilst in Portugal we have been to Luz, Alvore (my favourite, little fishing village), vilalobos, Lagos and Faro briefly.

We are staying at “Funchal Ridge”, a fantastically well equipped apartment for disabled people with all the luxuries one usually associates with one’s own home (walk-in shower, adjustable height bed and even a pool hoist and beach wheelchair). Incredibly nice and proactive host family who live next door trouble shot our every problem.

What a nice holiday, so nice to see Laura and Nick get married!

Summer coming

excited about ensuing holiday in Spain, enjoying the very sunny day today. Looking forward to learning about “big data” and using “Hadoop” to breakdown complex tasks into parallel concurrent jobs. Had major problems with wheelchair this weekend, head rest broke off and had to be reattached with metal struts. Had to rewire the connecting cable with parts ordered over the bank holiday weekend…

Treating mild chest infection with antibiotics, infection almost defeated.

managing the language barrier difficulties with carer communication and battling with Ryanair over charges to change names in a booking…

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather
